“Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and [his] doctrine be not blasphemed. And they that have believing masters, let them not despise [them], because they are brethren; but rather do [them] service, because they are faithful and beloved, partakers of the benefit. These things teach and exhort.” 1 Timothy 6:1-2
For a man to be a true leader, he has to be a very good follower.
True leadership is founded on service. A true leader has no limit to service. A true leader serves relentlessly; he does not offer eye-service (that is, service because of sight).
Your service is the only way God determines your responsibility. When you look through the scriptures, you see that true leaders were first trained to be servants. Take a look at Moses and Pharaoh; when you train a man to be a leader, he becomes like Pharaoh (a tyrant) but when a man is trained like a servant, He becomes a leader. Moses spent 40 years in the wilderness: this was God training him to be a servant so he becomes a better leader.
There is a difference between leadership and rulership. Moses was a leader while Pharaoh was a ruler. Two things are important for a man to be a true leader: a servant heart and the Spirit of God.
A Servant Heart the Holy Ghost = A True Leader
Your success is dependent on your servant heart. A man with a servant heart takes joy and pride in service. God does not look at our works to qualify us, He discerns the heart. Your placement in your heart is what determines your qualification as a true leader. Serve with the right heart at all times.
