Sunday daily devotional by Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Diet, 9th July, 2017) – Stand on the Word of God

Share this story:

“he staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in Faith, giving glory to God” Romans 4:20-21

Oh! How I love Abraham. He displayed a level of Faith that is scarce in our generation; he stood on the Word of God and refused to consider the possibility that God could fail him or that he was mad, even when the circumstances that proved otherwise were glaring him in the face for years.

Abraham stood strong for decades believing the Lord for a ‘promised son’ who would rule the world even when it seemed like God had failed him, and his barren wife had passed her fruitful years.

You see even when Sarah was 80 years old; Abraham still believed she could conceive.

Sometimes I try to imagine Him in our world today. If He had come out on national television to proclaim that he is a prophet of God and God has told him that his medically proven barren wife will conceive, and bear him a blessed son, the world would have laughed him to scorn. Imagine ten years later they interview him and he still holds on to his belief. Thirty years later and not only does he still believe but he changes his name and that of his wife to mean Father, and Mother of nations respectively.

Think about this! When Abraham and his aged wife come to tell the world that Sarah is finally pregnant, he would have been a laughing stock and perhaps a cautionary tale for many. Eventually, after proving that God indeed gave him a Son, he now decides to sacrifice that same blessed child believing that God could raise him from the dead. His claims would have been preposterous and delusional to the whole world, but amidst all these, Abraham persisted. Oh Glory! Our opening text said, he didn’t once stagger in doubt at the promises of God!

Try to imagine the incredulous look of shock and mockery on the faces of the men in Noah’s generation, when they saw Noah trying to build an ark. He was probably questioned and he most likely answered by saying The Lord is going to destroy the whole earth by flood and so he has asked me to build an ark that will accommodate animals and humans who would join in“. What a laughable answer!

Look at Moses who was told to cross the Red sea with millions of people; or Joshua that was asked to march round Jericho city instead of fighting.

All these emphasize for us that though the Word of God may not make sense to us, Its Faithfulness and dependability is sure!

DECLARATION:
I am building my faith today! I stand strong in faith and never waver!
