“Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” 1 Corinthians 4:1-2

God sees everyone as stewards; but only a few of the lot are faithful.

A steward is someone who has been given some resources at his disposal/discretion for him to account of in due time.

From our opening text, God shows us that there is a strong similarity between the office of a steward and that of a Minister of the Gospel. God expects that a minister, like a steward, should be devoted to his Master’s service. That is, he has got to offer reasonable service.

A service is termed reasonable when the one being served is satisfied with the service offered. When God talks about stewards He talks about profitability and productivity.

For God to make you a blessing, God has got to find you faithful as a steward. He has got to see you faithful in the resources He has given you.

Luke 12:42 says,

“And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? ”

As a steward, God has entrusted the welfare of the kingdom in your hands. For every resource He has given to you, He expects you to recognize your place as a steward and channel these resources to the expansion of His kingdom. This is why you would have to give account for every resources put at your disposal for His work.

Note this, the resources are not completely about finances. Your time is one of the resources God gave to you and as such, you would have to account for it.

When God considers you faithful and wise as a steward, He makes you ruler over His household. Potiphar saw that faithfulness and wisdom in Joseph and He made Him prime minister over all his household.

The most important quality required in a steward is faithfulness.

This is required particularly because the master’s resources are at his disposal. Refuse to become half hearted towards the Master’s work. God requires faithfulness from you.

DECLARATION:
I am a faithful and wise steward. I am devoted to the service of my Master.
