Odion Ighalo’s agent, Ladi Salami, has revealed the player is “very close” to an agreement with Manchester United.

The 30-year-old’s loan spell at Old Trafford expires this week, with the Red Devils yet to make a breakthrough in negotiations with his parent club Shanghai Shenhua.

United had been confident of extending Ighalo’s deal, but the Chinese Super Clubs want a permanent option and demanded in excess of £30m for the Nigerian striker.

“On the one hand, the Super Eagle [Nigerian] feels very good in Manchester with which it is very close to a salary agreement.

“Negotiations with the Chinese are ongoing and are going well.

“On the other hand, in view of the latest regulations in force in the Middle Empire, it is almost impossible to offer such amounts,” Salami told FootMercato.

According to The Times of London, Ighalo, 30, will now earn 21 million Euros (about N945 million) a year at his Chinese club, which is about what Mbappe pockets at PSG.

Ighalo’s new deal is for four years, which will therefore fetch him 84 million Euros. He was previously on 13 million Euros a year and the contract was to have ended next year.

The Chinese Super League is to resume next week while the suspended Premiership in England is also slated to restart on June 12.

Ighalo scored four goals in eight appearances before football was suspended.

His loan deal since January is due to end on May 31, which would have marked the end of the season in normal circumstances in England.
