Over 30 cows have reportedly received mass burial after dying mysteriously in Akungba, Akoko in Akoko South West council area of Ondo State.
According to a report, the cows owned by one Alhaji lbrahim Saliu, died one after the other after they returned from the grazing field that ill-fated day.
Although the cause of their death is yet to be disclosed, the traditional ruler of Akungba, Oba Sunday Ajimo has warned butchers not to sell the dead cows to the residents for fear that they were poisoned.
He threatened that any meat merchant caught selling parts of the cows would be prosecuted.
“It could be inimical to their health as the animals died of suspected food poisoning while grazing,” Oba Ajimo said.
Meanwhile, the traditional ruler has described the incident as a huge loss to the owner, adding that each of the cows was estimated at N300,000.
