Heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte could see himself being automatically elevated to the status of a full champion.
Whyte is going to face former WBA champion Alexander Povetkin on Saturday night at Matchroom’s Fight Camp in Brentwood.
Whyte, who holds the WBC’s interim-title, is the mandatory challenger to full champion Tyson Fury.
Fury is contractually bound to face Deontay Wilder, potentially on the date of December 19th.
Should he beat Povetkin, Whyte does not expect a mandatory fight with Fury to push through. Whyte is due a mandatory shot by February 2021.
Whyte could see the scenario of Fury defeating Wilder, and then vacating his title in order to face IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO champion Anthony Joshua in a potential two-fight series.
“I’ve got a feeling Fury will beat Wilder then vacate [his WBC title] then try and fight Joshua without the belt,” Whyte told Sky Sports.
“I’ve got a feeling that’s what he will do. He doesn’t show any interest in a fight with me. They are already trying to put obstacles in the way of fighting me.
“He said when he beat Wilder that he would fight me because I deserved it. Blah blah blah. Typical Fury, he says one thing today and one thing tomorrow. Hopefully, he does fight me because it’s a big fight and winnable for me.
“I can’t see Wilder beating him. Fury out-boxed him out-punched him, roughed him up. What’s Wilder going to do? He’s not suddenly going to become a great jabber or a mid-range fighter.
“He got out-boxed, bullied and beat up so I can’t see him winning the third fight unless Fury gets completely complacent and gets tagged, which can happen in heavyweight boxing.”
