Popular Ghanaian female TV presenter Serwaa Amihere has spoken out for the first time since her intimate video went viral on the internet.
She opened up a few weeks after Ghana police arrested three people for leaking the video on social media.
In a statement posted on her Instagram account on Wednesday night, April 24, Amihere expressed how embarrassed the video made her, her family, and her loved ones feel. She also highlighted the embarrassment it caused her employers and the businesses and brands she represents.
At the time of the video leak, many people criticized the GHOne TV presenter on social media.
The short video showed the media personality in bed with a man identified by police as Henry Fitz. The two were seen kissing on the neck and back.
Reports indicated that Fitz, her ex-partner, leaked the video after allegedly blackmailing her for several weeks.
Amihere has clarified that the video is from five years ago and that the individuals who shared it online extorted money from her for five months before being arrested by the police.
She apologized for the embarrassment, disappointment, and frustration the incident caused her family, the brands she represents, and her fans, emphasizing that she has learned her lessons and that such a thing will never happen again.
“Sincerely, I apologize for the embarrassment, disappointment, and frustration this incident has caused my family and loved ones, to the distinguished businesses and brands I represent, and to you.”
Police have charged three individuals for allegedly leaking the intimate video of Serwaa Amihere
On April 8th, police charged three individuals for allegedly publishing the intimate video of the popular Ghanaian TV presenter, Serwaa Amihere.
The three accused individuals are Edem Saviour Ketti (a filmmaker), Candylove Ababio (a trader), and Henry Amponsah, also known as Henry Fitz (a businessman), who is the main suspect for allegedly sharing the video.
They are facing four counts related to sexual extortion and the distribution of Serwaa Amihere’s intimate video.
The charges include conspiracy to commit a crime, which involves the non-consensual sharing of intimate images contrary to section 23 of the Criminal Offenses Act. They are also accused of sexual extortion contrary to section 66 of the country’s Cybersecurity Act of 2020.
According to court documents, one of the three individuals, Henry Fitz, is currently at large.
Many people believe that Henry Fitz leaked the video after allegedly blackmailing the presenter.
The police took action after the TV presenter filed an official complaint about the video leak.
How the suspects allegedly blackmail the TV presenter
The police accuse the suspects of leaking the video after allegedly receiving Ghc 25k ($1900) from Serwaa.
According to the charge sheet, the suspects called the TV presenter’s makeup artist on December 3, 2023, “to demand Ghc 5k ($380) or else they would leak her nude pictures.”
They allegedly provided the makeup artist with a mobile number belonging to one of the suspects (Edem Saviour Ketti) to send the money.
The charge sheet states that on April 2, 2024, the same person called the presenter from another number to demand an additional Ghc 20k ($1500).
The individual threatened to leak the video if she did not pay within a minute, despite receiving the money.
After Serwaa Amihere filed a complaint with the police on April 3, two of the three suspects were arrested.
The charge sheet mentions that Edem Saviour Ketti “admitted to using his Ghana card to register the number used to collect money from the presenter.”
The police have launched a manhunt for Henry Fitz, the main suspect in the case.
Henry is a businessman who owns several companies, including a hotel in the eastern region of Ghana.
It’s reported that he and the TV presenter were in a relationship at a time when Henry had a lavish wedding in 2019, which garnered attention on social media as he rented a pleasure resort for the entire weekend for the exclusive event.
