Mohbad death cause – The National Medical Services, known as NMS Labs, has confirmed that they received test samples of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, alias Mohbad.
The lab stated that they received postmortem samples identified as being from Mr. Aloba (the late singer).
Mohbad died on 12 September 2023, and there has been much speculation about the death of the 27-year-old artist.
NMS Labs in the US confirmed via email on 6 June 2024 that one of their laboratories received the test samples of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Mohbad’s body was exhumed by the police from its resting place in Ikorodu and taken to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (Lasuth) in September 2023.
On 21 September 2023, an autopsy was conducted to determine the cause of death.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed on X at the time, stating, ‘Exhumation completed’ – and they awaited the results.
In May 2024, various reports claimed that the lab had not received any test samples of the late Mohbad.
However, the US labs confirmed they received the postmortem samples of the late Mohbad on behalf of the Lagos State DNA & Forensic Center.
According to NMS Labs, ‘postmortem toxicology testing services support the medical examiner and coroner community to examine autopsy specimens, identifying the presence and quantity of therapeutic and illicit drugs and other toxic substances that may have resulted in the death of an individual’.
The lab, which has been in existence for over 50 years, stated that they strictly follow ‘forensic standards and use technology to provide results quickly’ and have a total of six laboratories in Pennsylvania, Florida, and four other locations.
Mohbad Death Cause: ‘We Complete Testing of Mohbad Samples’ – NMS Labs
The lab exclusively admitted that one of their agents sent information in May 2024 that gave the impression they did not have the samples from the late singer Mohbad.
“Unfortunately, in May 2024, an NMS Labs Customer Service Agent sent an email that gave the impression that NMS Labs did not have the samples from the singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, alias Mohbad,” the lab stated.
However, NMS Labs confirmed they received the samples of the late Mohbad from Lagos State through one of their separate labs in Pennsylvania named ITSI Biosciences.
“ITSI Biosciences was requested to complete testing on behalf of the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Center and the Lagos State Attorney General’s office,” the US-based labs confirmed.
According to NMS Labs, ITSI Biosciences forwarded the samples to them for testing.
The lab stated that they completed testing on the samples of Mohbad provided by the Lagos State forensic center and issued a report in April 2024.
Mohbad death cause: What Pathologist Says About The Autopsy Results
“NMS Labs completed testing of postmortem samples identified as being from Mr. Aloba, and a report was issued in early April 2024.”
Meanwhile, Sunday Shoyemi, a pathologist at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), appeared before the coroner magistrate court in Ikorodu on Wednesday, 15 May, where he spoke about the autopsy results.
Local media reported that the pathologist said the autopsy did not reveal the cause of Mohbad’s death because the body had decomposed before the autopsy was conducted.
According to Wahab Shittu, the legal representative for the Mohbad family, he further clarified what the pathologist said in court.
“What he said was that they do not know the cause of death and that the body should have been exhumed within 12 hours to prevent decomposition before the autopsy,” the lawyer stated.
The lawyer added that the pathologist referred to a certain drug the late Mohbad used before he died, “but he could not say whether this drug caused the death or not.”
Lawyer Shittu explained that he had not seen the full report of the autopsy results and that the inquiry was still ongoing to question the results presented by the pathologist.
