And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the
water. Matthew 14:28

The efficacy of God’s word is second to none. The story in our opening text is one I have come to love so much. A lot of Bible scholars and Christians have tagged that experience as a miracle. But what I see is Jesus living His normal everyday life.

If you read from verse 22 of our opening text, you would get a clearer picture of the story. Jesus, after another busy day in the wilderness, decides to pray all by himself; so, he went up a hill.

He left his disciples in a ship in the midst of the sea; distant from land. Turned out to be that night, the wind was not in their favour, so the waves kept tossing them.

But despite the beating of the waves, they saw someone walking on water. I can imagine how they must have felt; scared out of their wits.

They cried, ‘Ghost!’ But Jesus said to them in verse 27,

But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.

The proceeding verses are where it gets more interesting.

Peter, decided to test the word and told Jesus,

And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.

Jesus said one word in return; Come! The word, ‘come!‘ alone was all Peter needed to walk on water.

This is why you have got to hold fast to every word that God speaks to you. One word from God is better than a billion elsewhere. Scripture records that Peter actually walked on water.

But the very moment he stopped paying attention to the Word, he started to down. This year, choose to pay attention to every detail of the Word. God has said to us, that this year, we would walk on waters.

But that would only be possible when we choose to pay keen and rapt attention to the Word of God. Don’t let it leave your sight. Let it always be alive in your mind.

DECLARATION
Lord, I pay attention to every detail of your word. I would not be distracted; I would not drown. I am walking on water.
