Friday daily devotional by Pastor David Okoye (Ambassadors Word Diet, 19th JAN. 2018) – Grow up!

For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. Romans 8:15

Galatians 4:6 says,

And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

Yesterday, we came to understand that the very moment you received Jesus into your heart, you automatically possessed a special type of life; not possessed by all creatures.

This life was designed for God and Him alone. But understand this; the God class of life was designed only for Sons and not children. You see, Jesus was first a child before He became a Son. He became a Son when the Spirit of Son-ship fell on Him.

Remember His baptism? Scripture records in Matthew 3:16-17,

And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

The Spirit that came upon Jesus was the Spirit of adoption. For the first time, God referred to Jesus as Son. Adoption means to select from a lot.

Take for example; Solomon. David adopted Solomon to train him for Kingship. So when the Spirit of adoption comes upon a man, it means that God is selecting that man from the lot to train him into Son-ship by the Holy Spirit.

Not all Christians are Sons. Son-ship is by the adoption of the Spirit. Without the Spirit of adoption, it would be impossible for us to cry, “Abba, Father” In other words, eternal life isn’t given
to children, but Sons. When you received Jesus, you received salvation; which makes you a child of God.

Salvation doesn’t give you Son-ship; although, it is an independent variable in this equation.

That is, without it, you cannot get the end result, and having it alone, wouldn’t still give you the end result. You must, therefore, grow in the things of God. 1 John 2:12 gives a litmus test to knowing your stand in God; it says,

I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.

Only children sin unknowingly. Only a child would be pressured by an unbeliever to do the wrong thing. Dogs cannot pressure men to eat dog food, but they can pressure children to. Sons know what they want, and go for it. Children would always want to taste it all; putting everything in their mouth, despite how harmful it may be.

Quit being a child; it’s time to become a Son!

DECLARATION
Lord, I refuse to be a child; I’m growing up into maturity. I am a Son of God; for I have received the Spirit of adoption. Glory!
